{"id":10398,"date":"2014-06-05T21:56:29","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T02:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/?p=10398"},"modified":"2014-06-05T21:56:29","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T02:56:29","slug":"42nd-annual-meeting-emerging-conservation-professionals-network-ecpn-luncheon-may-29th-speed-networking-and-career-coaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resources.culturalheritage.org\/conservators-converse\/2014\/06\/05\/42nd-annual-meeting-emerging-conservation-professionals-network-ecpn-luncheon-may-29th-speed-networking-and-career-coaching\/","title":{"rendered":"42nd Annual Meeting: Emerging Conservation Professionals Network (ECPN) Luncheon, May 29th- Speed Networking and Career Coaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Scene:<\/strong> Anyone entering the hotel atrium at the AIC Annual Meeting on Thursday from 12-2 might have confused the pairs of people at numbered tables as a new conservation speed-dating event. \u00a0To give members a similar ability to make multiple connections in a limited time, the Emerging Conservation Professionals Network (ECPN) organized a speed-networking event that enabled approximately 100 conservators to meet face-to-face.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140529_130418_6652.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10403\" src=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140529_130418_6652-300x114.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"114\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>The Set-up:<\/strong> Before the networking began and while enjoying a boxed lunch, participants heard from various speakers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anna Zagorski and Angela Escobar, members of the Communications Group of the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), spoke on behalf of GCI, the event sponsor. \u00a0GCI strives to advance the field of conservation through the creation and dissemination of knowledge to the field and for the field, using a variety of resources. \u00a0Information on GCI can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getty.edu\/conservation\/\">GCI website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Elena Torok and Greta Glaser gave a moving and heartfelt memorial to their WUDPAC classmate of 2013 and fellow emerging professional, Emily Schuetz Stryker, who passed away unexpectedly in February.<\/li>\n<li>Stephanie Lussier, the AIC Board liaison to ECPN, gave a brief history of ECPN and lauded its accomplishments thus far, including the webinar series and portfolio symposium from the 2012 Annual AIC meeting.<\/li>\n<li>Megan Salazar Walsh, current ECPN Vice Chair and upcoming Chair, also recognized current ECPN officers and liaisons, AIC staff Ruth Seyler and Ryan Winfield, and the specialty groups who contributed to the event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Conservators Conversing:<\/strong> In the weeks leading up to the event, participants filled out a questionnaire ranking their preferences of matches and the topics to be discussed. \u00a0Each person received a different match for the three 15-minute sessions based on their responses. \u00a0At the event the participants were given their matches\u2019 information, as well as a handout on basic career and resume-building advice. \u00a0Pairs found one another for each session at designated tables, and soon the room was abuzz with enthusiastic energy from emerging and established conservator alike. \u00a0Two established professionals wandering by the event even joined in the fun and provided last-minute guidance.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140529_130348_287-12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10402\" src=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_20140529_130348_287-12-300x117.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Reviews:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThis was so much fun!
