{"id":14059,"date":"2016-03-21T07:49:56","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T12:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/?p=14059"},"modified":"2016-03-21T07:49:56","modified_gmt":"2016-03-21T12:49:56","slug":"job-posting-director-of-the-binder-and-conservation-studio-charleston-library-society-charleston-sc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resources.culturalheritage.org\/conservators-converse\/2016\/03\/21\/job-posting-director-of-the-binder-and-conservation-studio-charleston-library-society-charleston-sc\/","title":{"rendered":"Job Posting: Director of the Bindery and Conservation Studio &#8211; Charleston Library Society (Charleston, SC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Director of the Bindery and Conservation Studio &#8211; Charleston Library Society<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Position<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Director of the Bindery and Conservation Studio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Charleston Library Society is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified conservator to oversee and expand their conservation program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Essential Duties<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead, implement, oversee, and expand the long-term collection preservation and bindery operations at the Charleston Library Society in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Library Staff, and appropriate committees.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritize the conservation and preservation of the collections.<\/li>\n<li>Supervise daily activities, the Conservation Assistant, and interns in the Bindery and Conservation Studio.<\/li>\n<li>Organize outreach programs to the membership and community at large through workshops, tours and presentations.<\/li>\n<li>Document and perform conservation treatments on bound and unbound paper-based materials from the collection and membership\/community at large (on a limited basis) in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works.<\/li>\n<li>Advise and arrange the outsourcing of conservation treatments that cannot be performed in-house.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in any other Library activities as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A master\u2019s degree in Art Conservation plus 1 year professional experience or a similar level of experience.<\/li>\n<li>Fine binding experience.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with others in a close and collaborative atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li>Strong writing and public speaking skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary and Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$40,000 (negotiable in accordance with applicant\u2019s experience)<\/li>\n<li>Generous paid time off, health care, and retirement package (retirement package available after two years)<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities for professional development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications must be received by May 15, 2016.
