{"id":14201,"date":"2016-05-04T15:41:34","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T20:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/?p=14201"},"modified":"2016-05-04T15:41:34","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T20:41:34","slug":"blog-at-the-2016-aic-cac-and-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resources.culturalheritage.org\/conservators-converse\/2016\/05\/04\/blog-at-the-2016-aic-cac-and-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog at the 2016 AIC-CAC and win!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each year we receive feedback from colleagues who couldn\u2019t make it to the annual meeting that write-ups of the talks posted here on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\">www.conservators-converse.org<\/a> were interesting and informative.\u00a0 For the past few years we had so many fabulous concurrent session that even those present at the meeting couldn\u2019t attend all the talks they were interested in and found that they could get a taste of what they missed using the blog.\u00a0 Our blog sees a huge increase in traffic due to annual meeting posts with almost 600 unique visits per day.\u00a0 We know that many colleagues are looking forward to hearing more about the conference and hope that some of you will volunteer and share your thoughts from the meeting.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/AIC-CAC-AM2016.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14007\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14007\" src=\"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/AIC-CAC-AM2016-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"AIC-CAC-AM2016\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>How To Sign-up:<\/h2>\n<p>Signing up is easy.\u00a0 Just click on the link below to access the signup spreadsheet:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1QVD4qpSiALd9urUKnlYHPjv8m66YiZMEzSNeN8NFf3E\/edit?usp=sharing\">https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1QVD4qpSiALd9urUKnlYHPjv8m66YiZMEzSNeN8NFf3E\/edit?usp=sharing <\/a><br \/>\nThere is a separate tab down at the bottom for each SG or session.\u00a0 Next, input your name and email next to the talk you are interested in covering.\u00a0 Easy!\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The limit for signup is two talks so that nobody feels overwhelmed<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s In It For Me?<\/h2>\n<p>Many people take notes at the talks and writing them up is a great way to organize your notes and thoughts while doing something great for your colleagues and the field.\u00a0 Speakers are often grateful for the feedback.\u00a0 And, yes there is something in it for you&#8230;all volunteers who complete two posts will be entered into a drawing to win a <strong>FREE 2017 ANNUAL MEETING REGISTRATION!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What do I need to know about Blogging?<\/h2>\n<p>Not much!\u00a0 All volunteers will be sent AIC&#8217;s Guidelines and Blogging Tip Sheets.\u00a0 Writing a good blog post can take some time but covering a just two talks is very manageable.\u00a0 Here are a few things to know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You do not blog in real time so you don\u2019t need a laptop or internet access at the conference\u2013 the best way is to take notes and then write up your thoughts later (ideally by the end of the conference or shortly thereafter).<\/li>\n<li>You need not be an experienced blogger nor particularly tech savvy.\u00a0 The WordPress blog format is extremely easy to use and any necessary hand-holding will happily be provided to make you feel comfortable online.\u00a0 If you can send an email \u2013 you can create a blog post.<\/li>\n<li>There is no pressure to be particularly witty.\u00a0 Active tense, first-person and personal style are all encouraged in blog posts &#8211; this is a chance to free yourself from the writing constraints of condition reports!\u00a0 While all posts should be professional overall, the tone is somewhat between reporting and \u201cwhat I did over my summer vacation\u201d.\u00a0 The best posts tell why you were interested in the topic and what you learned, you aren\u2019t expected to be writing the speaker\u2019s postprint so you don\u2019t need to capture every detail.\u00a0 The goal is for readers to learn more about the talk than they would gain from the abstract.\u00a0 Tips and Guidelines will be provided for all volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to the talks we also value reviews of the workshop, tours, receptions and other associated events and sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>I Have Some Questions Before Signing Up &#8211;
