\nDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:<\/strong>
\nAssists the Historic Conservator with conserving marine and terrestrial archaeological objects.
\nProcesses and documents archaeological objects.
\nAssists the Historic Conservator with facility and equipment maintenance. This duty includes procuring supplies, arranging for equipment inspections, and ensuring the laboratory workspace remains clean and neat.
\nAssists the Collections Manager and Historic Conservator with public outreach programs, including laboratory tours and other speaking engagements.
\nAssists the Historic Conservator with maintaining a safe lab environment, including safety inspections.
\nAssists the Historic Conservator with instructing and training conservation interns and volunteers.
\nPerforms other related duties as requested.
\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong>
\nMasters degree with focus in conservation or a Bachelors degree and two years experience working in a conservation laboratory.
\nMinimum of one year experience in an archaeological or museum conservation laboratory.
\nREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:<\/strong>
\nKnowledge of basic archaeological conservation knowledge including marine and terrestrial objects, documentation, photography, and artifact database management.
\nKnowledge of basic cleaning and treatments.
\nKnowledge of chemical laboratory safety procedures.
\nAbility to use Microsoft Office Programs.
\nAbility to lift at least 50 pounds.
\nAbility to work in an environment of inconsistent temperature and humidity, occasionally outdoors.
\nPREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:<\/strong>
\nExperience cleaning and treating artifacts from marine and terrestrial sites.
\nExperience with treatment of metal artifacts including concreted objects and electrolytic reduction.
\nExperience treating organic artifacts.
\nExperience\u00a0with sealants and coatings.
\nKnowledge and understanding or maritime archaeological material culture.
