{"id":16515,"date":"2017-02-09T20:36:16","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T01:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conservators-converse.org\/?p=16515"},"modified":"2017-02-09T20:36:16","modified_gmt":"2017-02-10T01:36:16","slug":"its-time-to-do-it-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resources.culturalheritage.org\/conservators-converse\/2017\/02\/09\/its-time-to-do-it-again\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s time to do it again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The February 9, 2017 issue of The New York Times contains an interesting article about the plans to move and restore Atlanta\u2019s  cyclorama, \u201cThe Battle of Atlanta\u201d ( \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/08\/us\/a-painstaking-mission-to-save-atlantas-colossal-civil-war-painting.html?_r=0\">On a Mission to Save Atlanta\u2019s Civil War Cyclorama<\/a>\u201d, by Alan Blinder). The article notes that in the late 1970s\/early 1980s, the cyclorama underwent a major restoration which bought it \u201cmore time before the painting\u2019s quality and appeal began to wane again\u201d.  I\u2019m old enough to have been around in the field in 1979- 1981 when  Gustav Berger worked  on the painting. What a big (and expensive &#8212; $11 million) deal that project was!
