Careers in Preventive Conservation<\/i><\/b>\u201d taking place on\u00a0Thursday April 26<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0from 12:30-1:30 pm EDT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Preventive conservation is an integral part of many cultural heritage jobs, encompassing any actions meant to minimize the deterioration of collections. But what does this look like in practice, exactly? And how is this role addressed in conservation training? Find out in this webinar, which will feature an introduction to the concept of preventive conservation and highlight potential career paths into this vital specialization. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">ECPN has invited three speakers to provide their perspectives on this topic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Dr. Joelle Wickens, <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Preventive Conservator for Winterthur Museum, Gardens &amp; Library and Associate Director of the Winterthur\/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), will <\/span><span class=\"s1\">provide an overview of preventive conservation activities, skills, and training. This will be followed by a facilitated discussion in which Jessica Pace, <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Preventive Conservator at New York University Libraries, and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Jamie Gleason, <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Associate Preventive Conservator at the National Gallery of Art, will touch on their own career pathways into <\/span><span class=\"s1\">this conservation specialty and their own roles and responsibilities at their respective institutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">ECPN is seeking questions for the facilitated discussion session with our speakers.\u00a0To submit your questions in advance, please post in the comments section below\u00a0or send them via email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:ecpn.webinar@conservation-us.org\"><span class=\"s4\">ecpn.webinar@conservation-us.org<\/span><\/a>. Questions will be accepted until the morning of the webinar, or can be submitted during the presentations via the GoToWebinar platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Attendance is\u00a0<b>free\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>open to all AIC members<\/b>. J. Wickens\u00a0<\/b>is Preventive Conservator for Winterthur Museum, Gardens &amp; Library and Associate Director of the Winterthur\/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC). She received her Ph.D. in Conservation and MA in Textile Conservation from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and BA in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Joelle\u2019s current research includes: the development of techniques that quantify and mitigate outside light in a manner sympathetic to the historic house environment; devising accessible and sustainable storage practices for museums with limited staff; the development of materials and courses for the teaching of preventive conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Jessica Pace<\/b> is the Preventive Conservator at New York University Libraries.\u00a0 She received her MA in Art History and CAS in Conservation from the Conservation Center at NYU, and her BA in Art History and Visual Arts from Barnard College.\u00a0 Prior to this role, she worked in objects conservation at the Brooklyn Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Archaeological Exploration of Sardis in Turkey.\u00a0 Her current projects include devising accessible and economical housing for archival collections, creating training programs in preventive techniques for librarians and archivists, and improving housing and handling of materials during transport. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Jamie Gleason<\/b>\u00a0is the Associate Preventive Conservator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. He earned his MA (CAS) in Object Conservation from Buffalo State College in 2013, and a BA in Art History from the State University of New York at Albany. Jamie began his career at the National Gallery as the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Object Conservation, moving to the Gallery\u2019s newly formed Preventive Conservation Department in 2015. He has worked at museums and cultural institutions across the United States.
