The Friends of the Provincial Archives of Alberta Society is pleased to\u00a0offer one (1) Young Canada Works Internship in archival conservation at the\u00a0Provincial Archives of Alberta.\u00a0 Based in Edmonton, the Conservator (Intern)\u00a0will work on a variety of treatment, collections care, and outreach projects\u00a0designed to expand the intern’s knowledge of preservation and its\u00a0applications in an archival context.\u00a0 Projects include treatment of\u00a0paper-based records (bound volumes, textual and photographic), repair of\u00a0glass plate negatives, off-site collection assessment and environmental\u00a0monitoring. Treatment projects for this internship are focused on records\u00a0relating to Indigenous communities in Alberta, in order to enhance access to\u00a0these important historical resources.<\/p>\n
This internship requires a solid background in the conservation of historic\u00a0materials.\u00a0 The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate of a conservation\u00a0program with an archival conservation component.\u00a0 Proficiency in Microsoft\u00a0Office is required, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.\u00a0 A\u00a0willingness to participate in public engagement is also important, as is the\u00a0enthusiasm to make the most of an excellent practical learning opportunity.<\/p>\n

This position is scheduled to run for 24 weeks, between 10 September 2018 –\u00a01 March 2019 with a stipend of $20.20\/hour (36 hours per week).\u00a0 Please\u00a0note:\u00a0 start and end dates are flexible but the term cannot extend beyond 31\u00a0March 2019.<\/p>\n
