It carries out<br \/>\ninvestigations on a broad variety of materials within the museum<br \/>\nenvironment and focuses its research on scientific issues concerning<br \/>\nthe care of monuments and archaeological sites.<\/p>\n<p>It carries forward the tradition of the world &#8216;s oldest scientific<br \/>\nmuseum laboratory, the Chemical Laboratory of the Royal Museums in<br \/>\nBerlin, which was founded on April 1, 1888 and bears the name of its<br \/>\nfirst director, Friedrich Rathgen.<\/p>\n<p>It is the mission of the Friends of Rathgen (Farderkreis des<br \/>\nRathgen-Forschungslabors e.V.) to support the work of the Rathgen<br \/>\nResearch Laboratory in various ways, among others by supporting<br \/>\nresearch projects of young professionals in heritage science.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, the Rathgen Heritage Science Scholarships have been<br \/>\nestablished in 2009 and are awarded annually.<\/p>\n<p>The Rathgen Heritage Science Scholarship enables young professionals<br \/>\nto undertake a project at the laboratory within 1-3 month duration.<br \/>\nThe topic is proposed by the applicant.
