Tip #3: Take advantage of online resources<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
If you\u2019re reading this blog then you\u2019re already on the right track! Blogs are generally written as editorials, but contain valuable resources like researched articles, interviews with conservators, or links to other useful sites. And if readers add their own comments (hint hint), you can build a great dialogue between a diverse crowd. Here\u2019s a sampling of some blogs worth visiting: <\/span><\/span>Art:21 Blog<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>Brooklyn Museum<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>Dan Cull Weblog<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>Indianapolis Museum of Art<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>June an<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>d Art<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>Jeff Peachey<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Social networking sites are wonderful resources for organizing information in one place. Even if you don\u2019t feel like connecting with friends, you can use Twitter and Facebook to network with other professionals or simply check the pages for conservation articles, current news, and links to blog postings. Both sites do more or less the same thing\u2014bring you updates from a variety of people and institutions\u2014but some conservators prefer to <\/span><\/span>tweet<\/span><\/span><\/i> than <\/span><\/span>share<\/span><\/span><\/i>, or <\/span><\/span>like<\/span><\/span><\/i> instead of <\/span><\/span>follow<\/span><\/span><\/i>. On either site you will find up-to-date reports from ICCROM, IIC, the University of Delaware and more!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

AIC also produces an online <\/span><\/span>news bulletin<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, on top of the quarterly newsletter sent out by mail. Even if you\u2019re not a member, spend some time perusing the AIC site. You can watch <\/span><\/span>tutorials<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/span>on chemistry, register for <\/span><\/span>workshops and online courses<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, and <\/span><\/span>watch a video<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> or two.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, be sure to subscribe to the Conservation Distribution List. Each week an email is sent out listing events, job postings, conservation questions, and general conservation news. Like all of the other websites mentioned, the distlist provides up-to-date information, but it\u2019s all compiled nicely into an email and sent to you. The greatest thing about all of these resources is that they are open forums that allow <\/span><\/span>you<\/span><\/span><\/b> to participate; you can share a link on Facebook, comment on AIC news, or even post your own article on the ECPN blog\u2014and I hope you do!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
