 mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";  mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}  &lt;![endif]--><span>      <span style=\"font-size:78%\">One of Las Cruces&#8217; Beautiful Sunsets<\/span>       <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\"><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">             <span style=\"font-family:georgia\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">Welcome to Las Cruces, New Mexico!<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">I recently gradu<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia\"><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">ated from the Museum Conservation Program at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">I am so grateful to have had the experience the program offers and am happy to have the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">opportunity to present the program to other emerging conservators.<br \/>         Basically, the program\u2019s requirements are the sa<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">me as<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\"> conservation graduate school requirements.<span>  Some of the classes can be taken as graduate level classes, but the program is primarily an undergraduate program. <\/span>Silvia Marinas, the Head of the Museum Conservation Department and a private Conservator herself, eng<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ineered the program to fulfill a<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ll of the graduate school requirements.<span>  <\/span>This means that you take Art History, Studio Art, Archaeology, Entomology, Museum Studies and Chemistry.<span>  <\/span>In add<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ition, there are four core classes.<span>  <\/span>One of the classes teaches the basics of Collections Care &amp; Management, skills that you later put into practice in an internship with th<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">e New Mexico State<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\"> University Museum.<span>  <\/span>In two other classes, titled Museum Conservation Techniq<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ues, you learn the basic restoration techniques for ceramics, pain<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">tings on canvas and paintings on metal.<span>  <\/span>T<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">hen you put those skills to w<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ork on other, real, objects in an Internship class <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">with Silvia Marinas.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-family:georgia\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4LzPuHVxQTA\/Tml9cgVB-kI\/AAAAAAAABJs\/npmPRPZtNwE\/s1600\/Museum.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0px auto 10px;text-align:center;cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;width: 134px;height: 200px\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4LzPuHVxQTA\/Tml9cgVB-kI\/AAAAAAAABJs\/npmPRPZtNwE\/s200\/Museum.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5650185136180951618\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: georgia;text-align: center\">  <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><span><span><span style=\"font-size:78%\">New Mexico State University Museum<\/span><span style=\"font-size:78%\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;font-family:georgia\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span>                <span style=\"font-family:georgia\">                          <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">Overall, the program is structured to be useful in real life.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">The format in which Silvia Marinas teaches the classes is particularly useful, because she has us create materials that will be useful for us in the future.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">For instance, from her Collections Care class I have a binder with information on things such as temperature &amp; humidity guidelines<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">, handling, storage, etc., for each kind of museum object.<span>  <\/span>From her Museum Conservation Tec<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">hniques classes I have condition reports that I cr<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">eated of various types of objects that I can and have referenced when working on similar objects.<span style=\"font-family:arial\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">And overall, the program is structured to fulfill <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia;font-size:100%\">the requirements for graduate schools and Pre-grad internships, so students are well prepared to appl<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">y to these places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;font-family:georgia\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:georgia\"><span style=\"font-family:georgia\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-gndcwedRs2A\/Tml9wLojdbI\/AAAAAAAABJ0\/AAedcHMc130\/s1600\/Ceramic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0px auto 10px;text-align:center;cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;width: 200px;height: 150px\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-gndcwedRs2A\/Tml9wLojdbI\/AAAAAAAABJ0\/AAedcHMc130\/s200\/Ceramic.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5650185474223076786\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;font-family:georgia\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;font-family:georgia\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:78%\">Reconstructed Ceramic Vessel from Museum Conservation Techniques Class<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;font-family: georgia\">  <\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;font-family:georgia\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span>                                <\/span><span>T<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">he best part of Las Cruces is the people.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">Las <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">Cruces is primarily a college town but the professors make every effort to let us know what exhibit<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">ions, shows or lectures we should attend.<\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">  <\/span><span style=\"font-family:georgia\">There are many cultural events related to the strong Hispanic &amp;
