This paper addresses the interdisciplinary collaboration between the Fondazione il Giardino dei Tarocchi, the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS), and GCI in creating a robust long-term preservation plan for the Garden. This process involved conducting digital site documentation, undertaking condition assessments, and engaging in discussions with living collaborators and current site caretakers to develop a comprehensive sitewide maintenance plan. The digital documentation was carried out using a variety of technical recording methods, including total station (TS) surveying, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), and aerial, terrestrial, and panoramic photogrammetry. Significant challenges for documentation arose due to the large size, irregular shape, and immersive siting of the garden\u2019s sculptures and structures, as well as the specular reflection of the ceramic and mirrored tiles on their surfaces. To address these issues, specialized methods utilizing point cloud and photogrammetric processing solutions were developed. These comprehensive documentation strategies resulted in the creation of tangible digital assets, including measured line drawings, orthorectified images, a Geographic Information System (GIS), and an interactive photographic record portfolio.
