Curriculum<\/p>\n

Further develop the participants\u2019 core treatment, preventive, analytical, connoisseurship, decision making and critical thinking skills, through the following activities:<\/p>\n

Discussions and presentations<\/p>\n

o Reinforce conservation terms, vocabulary, key points, and ideas<\/p>\n

o Review topics with individual participants and as a group<\/p>\n

o Have participants present their treated project photographs to the photograph conservators and other participants on the last day<\/p>\n

o Encourage participants to record their observations and add to their dictionary of terms<\/p>\n

Written documentation<\/p>\n

o Examination of a project photograph and preparation of a treatment proposal, time estimate, and treatment record<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Participants will retain copies of all written documentation<\/p>\n

Digital photographic documentation<\/p>\n

o Working with our photographer, create before, during and after\u2010treatment digital documentation for the project photograph<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 using incident, raking, ultraviolet, and\/or specular lighting, as appropriate<\/p>\n

o Working with a conservator, create photomicrographs using our stereomicroscope and digital camera<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Participants will retain copies of the digital documentation as digital files on CD and inkjet prints<\/p>\n

Photograph conservation treatment skills<\/p>\n

o Treat of a \u201cproject photograph\u201d (19th and early 20th century) employing any or all of the following procedures, using the stereomicroscope, as needed.<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Surface cleaning and mold removal<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Consolidation<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Washing and stain reduction through light bleaching and\/or other methods<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Mending<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Humidification and flattening<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Unmounting and mounting<\/p>\n

\uf0a7 Aesthetic compensation \u2013 fills and inpainting<\/p>\n

o Participants will retain their project photograph.<\/p>\n

o Design and construct simple housing for storage and transport of the project photograph<\/p>\n

\uf0b7 Housing<\/p>\n

\uf0b7 Process identification o Examine photographic, photomechanical, and digital prints from CCAHA\u2019s collection with a photograph conservator using the\u00a0stereomicroscope and a variety of lighting conditions<\/p>\n

\uf0b7 Evaluation o Record the participants\u2019 progress using \u201cWorkshop Evaluation Forms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside Activities<\/p>\n

These will be offered to the participants but not scheduled for them.<\/p>\n

\uf0b7 Philly Photo Arts Center \u2013 show for 2nd Annual Contemporary Photography Competition<\/p>\n

\uf0b7 Antique markets to purchase photographs for their study collections<\/p>\n
