Duties: Artlab Australia conserves and preserves cultural heritage resources within South Australia, Australia and internationally. It is located in Adelaide, a city rich in the arts and cultural diversity – an integral part of Australia’s arts and heritage landscape. Artlab delivers its services to major organizations such as the Art Gallery of SA, the SA Museum, the State Library, and History SA, as well as to a range of smaller organizations and the general public. These services include preventive programs, remedial treatments, community support and education. Artlab Australia is seeking a new Principal Conservator who will manage paper, book and photographic conservation services for a broad range of state, national and international clients. This interesting and challenging team leader position involves managing the projects and workflows of a dynamic team of conservation staff who are working with a broad range of materials including works of art, books, maps, photographs and plans.
Special conditions: Intra and interstate travel and the provision of services on-site at client locations will be required together with some out-of-hours work. Some international travel may also be required. Engagement in this role may be subject to a satisfactory Department for Communities and Social Inclusion Criminal History Check or National Police Check. A renewal will be required every 3 years. An exciting opportunity has arisen at the British Museum for a Curator to research and make publicly accessible the Roman collections from Britain in support of the Museum Operating Plan, as well as the Museum Research and Display strategies.
As Curator, you will primarily lead on up-grading the documentation of the collection, improving the display of the collection in the gallery of Roman Britain and reporting on cases of Roman finds reported for export license or as Treasure. We are seeking a full-time Projects Conservator to work on a major collections rationalization project in connection with the development of the University Collections Facility at South Gyle. Based at South Gyle and the Main Library in George Square, you will be required to address the preventive and interventive conservation needs of rare books and archive collections.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who holds a good honors degree or equivalent relevant experience with a conservation or preservation focus. Comprehensive knowledge of conservation working practices and procedures is essential, as is attention to detail, communication skills and commitment to long-term professional development.
This role will form part of a team of five new project posts being created to work on this key project. The project is crucial in ensuring the ongoing stability and discover-ability of collections and presents an excellent opportunity to gain relevant work experience within a dynamic and supportive work environment.
This post is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis of 12 months.
Main Responsibilities
- Undertake interventive conservation work in accordance with the project plan (Approx % of time: 50%)

About the role
From care and conservation, to display and interpretation, our Pictures team is responsible for an unparalleled collection of nearly 8,000 paintings and 3,000 miniatures.
Joining a team of talented Paintings Conservators, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of all conservation activities relating to loans from the Paintings collection, as well as the treatment of paintings to be displayed within the Royal Residences.
Whether you’re planning a program of treatment for selected loans or working in situ, you’ll ensure our magnificent paintings can be displayed in their full glory.
You’ll fully assess paintings in the collection, compiling condition reports, and undertaking detailed examinations to determine any conservation treatment needed.

Description: The Preservation Services Manager, Northern New England, represents Historic New England in northern New England, with a focus on the work of managing the organization’s preservation easements in Maine, New Hampshire, and parts of Massachusetts. This position serves as the institutional expert regarding the history, legal background, and maintenance chronology of assigned properties enrolled within Historic New England’s Preservation Easement Program and monitors these properties to ensure ongoing compliance with preservation and conservation restrictions. This position responds to public inquiries about preservation easements, cultivates prospective easement properties, and makes internal and public presentations about preservation easements with the goal of growing this program. This position is also responsible for fostering positive relationships with external preservation partners and for serving as local resource for preservation issues within the assigned region of responsibility.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation, art history, or architectural history with at least two years of job-related experience. Master’s degree in those fields listed above is preferred. Fully competent computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, internet research, and email is required. GIS and CAD experience is preferred. Basic digital photography skills are required. This position requires regular travel to locations throughout New England. A valid driver’s license, a means of transportation, and ability to drive are requirements of the position.

General Description
Homewood Museum, a Baltimore, MD landmark since 1801 and a historic house museum of Johns Hopkins University since 1987, is seeking a new director and curator (D/C) as it prepares for transformational changes in its interpretation and educational outreach. The university is seeking a visionary, energetic leader inspired by early Maryland history and the story of the Carroll family, with creation of connections to the current day and ideas for how a historic structure like Homewood can be kept vibrant and relevant.
Under the supervision and direction of the Sheridan Dean of University Libraries and Museums, the D/C oversees and participates in all aspects of Homewood Museum operations, including development of strategic vision; academic programming and educational outreach; collections care, curation, and interpretation; fundraising and financial planning; marketing; facilities; and fostering staff, volunteer, board, university, and community relations.
Essential functions:
- Provides strategic, visible, and inspirational leadership to the museum, including the staff (1 full time and several part time), many volunteers and docents and other staff in development and communications in the dean’s office.
- Demonstrates interest in and ability to meaningfully connect with Johns Hopkins students and faculty, as well as community partners, by spearheading creative, engaging, multi-disciplinary academic programs (academic teaching and co-teaching, faculty and student research support, lectures, symposia, etc.) and involving students from across campus in the curatorial and educational activities of the museum
- In collaboration with faculty members, develops dynamic and exciting exhibitions and programs that favor public engagement, creative collaborations, and multidisciplinary (e.g. social history, public history, gender studies, Africana studies)
- Produces publications that advance scholarly and public awareness of the museum and its collections.
- Works to ensure that the museum employs current and innovative methods needed to reach multiple demographic groups, and encourages increased visibility and interaction utilizing traditional, print, social, and other forms of new media.
- Follows standard professional museum practices for maintaining the safety and care of museum collections and for securing museum collection records and archival resource materials.
- Coordinates the management, security, and the preservation of the historic and architectural integrity of the Homewood Museum facility, which includes a privy outbuilding and an orchard.
- Cultivates relationships with major stakeholders for the purposes of fundraising, including major gifts, for special projects and operations, and works with the Homewood Museum Advisory Board to help achieve understanding and strong support for the museum’s goals and programs.
- Oversees the museum budget, including planning, preparing, monitoring, and administering, and recommends opportunities to grow and develop new revenue streams for the museum.
- Performs a variety of public relations activities, including conducting special tours and giving lectures to various citizen groups.
- Oversees recruitment, training, and supervision of staff, docents, volunteers, student interns, and guest curators.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in art history, arts administration, museum or curatorial studies, humanities or a related field; Ph.D. preferred. Minimum of 5 years progressive, professional experience in a museum, including at least two years in a management capacity.
