AIC and FAIC are pleased to offer public commenting on our projects that need input from the conservation and related communities. We are currently seeking comments on a charge to a potential AIC task force on revising and updating the AIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice. This stems from a recommendation of the FAIC […]

Do we want to rephrase this statement?

AIC takes the lead over FAIC in advocating for responsible public policy related to cultural heritage preservation. AIC partners with AAM, AFTA, and NHA in advocacy efforts, not FAIC. I also believe that AIC is as much of a voice for cultural heritage preservation as FAIC. I suggest “In collaboration with its affiliate FAIC, AIC is the voice for cultural heritage preservation. AIC advocates for . . .”

I like Brenda’s statement above, but it is not a vision statement that projects what we would like to accomplish in the future. It seems more of a mission statement, but if we replace our current mission statement with this one, we will lose language about professional standards, research and publications, education, etc. that I believe important to include in our mission statement. I agree with Suzanne in removing everything after “supported” and also with the suggestion to replace “material” with “heritage.”

Well, it seems appropriate somehow to note this is ongoing. What if we maintain the first part of #58, while having the rest read something like ” while evaluating ….. and developing, implementing…, and supporting….”
So that it’s a continuation and enhancement of what is in place, not separate. Not sure that helps with your concerns. Just a thought.

I agree with Brenda that this doesn’t need to be a goal on its own – unless the board feels that is required to emphasize its importance and particular significance at this time. It does sound kind of flat. Yes, examples here, perhaps something directly from the WG report, to at least show that we have an idea of our direction in carrying it out. We’ve been doing our homework on this and we need to show that.

Overall GOAL I is a good basic section and a subject dear to my heart. Other than Suzanne’s note, which I agree with, I can find nothing wanting.

To play devil’s advocate to Suzanne and Sarah’s comments…Does our last strategic plan actually call out an audience made up of international conservators, allied professionals, and the public? I feel like that focus is relatively new for AIC so should perhaps be mentioned.

Position statements that promote the Guidelines for Practice? If not, this section is out of place.
