Budget Cuts Force Georgia Archives to Close to the Public after November 1st

The Georgia Archives are slated to be closed to the public as of November 1. Georgia will then be the only state not to have archives for the public. The citizens of Georgia will no longer have access to these primary, historical resources unless action is taken now.

  1. Whom in AIC should we contact about asking the organization to make a formal statement regarding the closing of the GA Archives? It seems to me since many of our members, myself included, work in archives and libraries, and since our organization is about the long term preservation of and access to cultural and historic materials, that AIC should join SAA in formally advocating for the reversal of this decision.

  2. Why in the world would the GA archives be closing to the public? That is a contradiction of the reason they are there, is it not?
