Passivating stainless steel on-site

Lucinda Linderman

Abstract

This session offers tips for using proprietary passivating chemicals for corrosion removal on bead blasted stainless steel. Contemporary artists like Ellsworth Kelly and Jaume Plensa rely on these finishes for their velvety appearance. Because they are very textured these surfaces hold moisture and salts and are easily blemished by flash rusting. They can’t be easily cleaned without burnishing.  I will show tips to avoid leaving tide lines or blanching while using proprietary passivating chemicals.
