Abstract
Cultural Property “collection” has been around for a long time. Cultural Property “protection” and the US Government’s role in it are relatively new (1983). Recent law enforcement events in the public domain (i.e., Getty Museum case in Italy, Fred Schultz case, Phoenix Ancient Art case, the Met’s Euphronius Krater) as well as the looting at the Baghdad Museum in Iraq have brought forward the issues surrounding cultural heritage and the law. Is it true that a conservator has touched every object in every museum, collection and gallery? What do you know? What were you told? What did you see? What did you do with the information?
