The eternal triangle -or- Between a rock and a hard place: Addressing the needs of field archaeologists, conservators, and archaeological curators

Holly Young

Abstract

In formulating curation manuals, which set out guidelines for the preparation of cultural resource management project collections for curation, archaeological repositories need to combine their own institutional requirements with an awareness of the nature of contract archaeology and issues which have been identified by conservators as crucial to object preservation. In Arizona, efforts in the last five years have concentrated on education and communication. This paper will discuss some of the successes and failures in the attempt to achieve a standard for curation which all three groups can subscribe to and work with to accomplish their common goals.
