Abstract
The recent conservation treatment of an alabaster sculpture involved cleaning and loss compensation. Several different handheld grinding tools for shaping fills were tested and used, one of which had advantages of size and slow variable speeds. Several different cleaning methods, materials, and tools were also used, including an electric eraser that proved gentle and effective, especially on large areas. The efficacy of brush, swab, and handheld eraser cleaning is also discussed, with video comparisons.
